Todd Cordell: Chris Lee could be an option for Flames, Nick Schneider traded to Hitmen

I thought the same thing when I read the article about him yesterday. He could be a viable # 4 D option for us. The age I don't think would be an issue as I would be happy if we got 2 productive years out of him - just buying more time for the prospects to ripen on the farm. I think we could maybe sign him for around 1 mil per year on a 1 year deal. If it works out good - we sign him again next year on a 1 year deal. I don't think he will have a lot of NHL options. What did he make in the KHL last year? Is 1 mil a year a reasonable expectation that he would sign for that - on a 1 year deal?

Let's not resign the best #4 D we've had on a long fricken time, so we can take a chance with a 36yr old KHL player that played pretty good in a non-contact international tournament.

Why wouldn't we resign Stone + Chris Lee as a #5 D? If the Flames are serious about a playoff run they have to resign Stone or someone better. 36yr old Chris Lee is not better.

Seriously though, Stone 2x3.75 and he still gets a crack at a reasonable UFA contract when he's 28. Doubt he'll get what he could long term after a rough season and a half before getting traded.

Yes. I really, really think you should sign Chris Lee as a top 4 D on the Flames. That and Elliot would be great .

I don't believe that any doors should be closed on any player, before their viability as a possible solution are explored. Have you seen him play? If you have, tell us why he won't work. If you haven't, then all you have is an opinion - based on nothing! My preference also is Stone - but he might be wanting more than we are willing to give - and there is very likely somebody out there who will pay what he wants. I loved Stone's play when he came to us last year - I do see him as a viable # 4 option but there are others who don't. Again - I don't believe in shutting down any possibilities. If we picked up Lee at 1 mil a year on a 1 year deal there is virtually zero risk - why not give it a try. If signing Lee meant that we can't sign Stone - then don't sign Lee & go after Stone. I just get the felling for some reason that the Flames don't seem to be looking at Stone as a # 4 D that they are going to spend on, what it takes to get him.

....say coyle(might cost Backland for that) , or bobby ryan. swap 1st and brouwer for Ryan, maybe they keep 1mil.

then draft kole lind later in the 1st round. watching him with Dube they'd be good to play together. and he plays like bennet with a bit of an edge.

ryan is overpaid, but gets prime player to play top 2 RW, and make a run for the playoffs.

Need more people that make the goalies nervous so that money/Gaud can get space

To me that is at best lateral ...and probably makes them a worse team....backlund is so underrated ...I wouldn't trade him
